University of Minnesota Cancer Center
As one of only 39 comprehensive cancer centers in the U. S. designated by the National Cancer Institute, the University of Minnesota Cancer Center strives to advance the understanding of cancer and enhance treatment for patients.

Advancing knowledge and  enhancing care is the mission of the University of Minnesota Cancer Center. The Cancer Center fosters this mission by creating a collaborative research environment focused on the causes, prevention, detection and treatment of cancer; applying that knowledge to improve quality of life for patients and survivors; and sharing its discoveries with other scientists, students, professionals and the community.

Diabetes Institute for Immunology and Transplantation
The Minnesota Pancreas and Liver Center works closely with the Diabetes Institute because one of the adverse effects of removing the pancreas is the likelihood of developing diabetes.

The University of Minnesota is world-renowned as a pioneer of organ transplantation, from deceased human donors and living-donors alike. This reputation lies at the heart of successful pancreas transplantation,  pioneered here in 1966 and successful islet transplantation pioneered here in 1974. University of Minnesota Medical School capitalized upon its historic strengths in pancreas and islet transplantation by establishing the Diabetes Institute for Immunology and Transplantation (DIIT) to pursue a cure for diabetes.

The Transplant Center
The Transplant Center at University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview has performed more than 10,000 transplants, providing adult and pediatric transplants in heart, heart/lung, lung, liver, kidney, kidney/pancreas, pancreas, intestinal and inslet cell. It celebrates its 45th year in a strong transplant leadership position. Our transplant programs, pioneers in research and acceptance of organs from living donors, leads the nation in living-donor kidney and liver transplantation.,

As the first officially approved transplant fellow training program, more transplant surgeons have trained at University of Minnesota Medical Center than any other center. Our transplant program surgeons, professors and trainees have held leadership positions in every major transplant-related professional organization.
