Minnesota Pancreas and Liver Center Located just above your stomach, the liver is one of the largest organs of the body. It is a very important organ in that:
 
  • Helps the body get rid of harmful substances.
     
  • Produces bile, which helps your body digest fats.

  • Stores sugar, which the body uses for energy.

  • Makes many proteins, which are the building blocks for all cells in the body.
